everything else you can think of allowed.

use both samples in some way.

Think i'm gonna skip this one.

I used to do poly-rhythmic patterns when i was learning a Sound-Design course and i Always thought it didn't make any sense musically. Thought it sounded wrong.

that's cool..
think its a nice challenge to make it sound dope somehow.
it doesn't have to be throughout the whole track.
but as you've learned about it, can you maybe tell me..
my initial thought was percussion played during a 4/4 kick and snare beat in an off grid way.. is that poly rythmic?

Not throughout the whole track, could be just some tripplet hihats for example. depends on you how much youd like to experiment.
yea, i think as long as the offbeat notes have a rythm in common.

a tripplet hihat pattern over a 4/4 beat for example.

Oh nice i've been meaning to get into polyrhythmic drums for ages! 8-)

Dilla for example uses it on a few tracks where there is one chop part that loops after 7 bars rather than the usual 4 or 8 etc, but the rest of the parts loop on the 4 or 8, 16 etc as usual for 4/4 time signature tracks. Or DJ Premier playing 5 chops over 2 bars on The Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers. (Videos on using these teks below)

It's also actually a really good way to get the likes of a looping drum part for example sound far more live and interesting than if it was in the same time signature as the rest of the drums as it's always creating new rhythmic patterns in conjunction with the rest of the drums yet still being repetitive enough to make sense rhythmically.

Here's a good article on it for more guidance if anyone needs it:

https://blog.landr.com/use-polyrhythms- ... fect-beat/

Half of what STBB is about for me is pushing us to flip records, create vibes, and play beats we may not normally, so something like this is a great challenge for most of us IMO. :drum:

As already said, it doesn't need to be anything too complex, so even just a part that goes polyrhythmic will be in the spirit of the rules.

Here's a good example of a polyrhythmic track from a STBB past:
