Melodyne for sampling - worth it?

Mon May 25, 2020 3:29 am

Hi all,

I’m just wondering what people’s’ thoughts are on Melodyne for sampling and what package you have?

Am I correct that it does key detection as well? If so, how do the results compare with something like Mixed In Key?

I’d love to hear any general impressions about Melodyne as it relates to sampling that you might have and your workflows.

Thanks.

PS: I’m guessing they have sales regularly so I probably won’t be picking anything up until I can get a discount if I do decide to get it.

i dont use it but if i understood correctly it works best with single instruments.
you could change the key of a guitar chord for example but the more instruments or sound sources are overlapping their frequencies in a mix the harder it gets for the software to distinguish them from each other.
check out the demo theyre offering a 30 day trail.

Thanks. I might grab the demo. I’ve been watching some videos and it seemed like it has gotten better than it was when I looked at it years ago, but maybe it’s still not there yet for the kind of samples we work with here on STBB.

The trial period has been extended to 90 days because of the rona

it will exceed your expectations if you can think outside of the box it was intended to serve

DO IT

Nope! But will check it now! Thanks for letting me know. I hope they still have the 90-day trial! Do you know when/if they do big yearly sales?

I've never used it to sample but recently saw Jake One used it for a bass line on a westside gunn / doom remix.

I have an old version and will give it a shot!
