"[Your favorite artist] Type Beat"
Week

The idea:
Nothing in this world is entirely new.
Everything is a collage, an adaption, created through experimentation and mimicking of what we´ve learned as working positively while growing up.
Now you´ve probably seen the flood of "XY type beats" online raising your eyebrows and hatin´ (consider myself guilty here) but ultimately copying is a part of learning and therefor improving and finding your way as an artist. Let´s see how that works for us and what we can learn from it :)

The rules:
- Use the sample(s) and try to recreate the style of your favorite artist/producer (can be current favorite or all-time).
Listen consciously to how they use and chop samples, their drum, arrangement and mixing choices etc.
- Put brackets with ([your favorite artist] type beat) at the end of the song title.
- Briefly tell us in the post about your process and learnings creating the beat.
- HAVE FUN

- Outside Instruments/VST/ - YES
- Vocal Shots/FX - YES
- Other Musical Samples - NO
- Full Acapellas - NO

The samples:
https://we.tl/t-XzIo2XegZw

The fine print:
Upload your beat to Soundcloud, include "STBB 708“ in the title, and POST TO THIS FORUM by Wednesday at Midnight, Pacific time.
Try to leave as much feedback as you can and you will receive it back.
For easy browsing's sake, you can also go to the STBB page: https://soundcloud.com/stbbcollection
Label entries that are posted after the deadline as 'late entry' and entries that don't comply with the rules as: 'non-entry' in your track title.
EVERYONE VOTES - by Friday at Midnight, Pacific time
Winner: post new sample, rules, etc by Saturday at Noon, Pacific time and upload the sample here: https://wetransfer.com/

Hi everyone, first time poster here.
I tried to make an old Kanye West kinda instrumental here. I noticed that he likes to use alot of toms and other unorthodox percussions in his beats, especially the older ones. And of course everyone knows about the "chipmunk soul" signature sound, which i had a hard time stringing together with the verse section  I used a bunch of different percussions I had downloaded and "deep bass" from sytrus. The vocal shot is from a trap chants pack.
I've only been making beats for a few months, and was sent here and I'm mostly posting this here for feedback and criticism on how to do better.
I hope you guys enjoy it and congratulations to super_sen for winning the last battle!

Fixed it for ya  - Welcome to the board!

All you have to do is paste the Soundcloud link and the board will do the rest!

Edit: Also you captured the old Kanye vibes well in your entry :)

Congrats Sen... Nice Battle idea! It was fun bcos usually I spend my time trying to cover up how I'm chomping from Premo, Dilla and others of my favs.

Went with a Premo Type Beat.... Especially his beat 'The Come Up' by AZ and 'MCs Act Like They Dont Know' by KRS.... And a little of Jay Zs 'Million Questions' kinda...

Premo has quite distinct way he chops samples and has a certain funky bounce to his (hard sounding) drums I tried to capture... and added bell hits in the background... And its always epic sounding. Then little tinkles of guitar at the end of each 4 bars... I tried ;)

Anyways, I hope you enjoy... :peace:

I chose to do a No I.D. type beat. He's produced some of my all time favs. I love his use of drum fills, so I tried to recreate that. Also I love his creative choice of chops and then how he sequences them into the structure of an actual song.. with many parts.

I did this a challenge a little backward. Instead of thinking of a producer first, I listened to the samples and thought about which one of my favorite producers would flip this. With a soul sample like this I instantly channeled my 9th Wonder. (Dilla was an obvious second choice).
