percussive perspective

The plan this week is to not use hihats but use self-recorded percussion instead. If you don't have real percussion, be creative! Use waterbottles, knock on a table, shake something, whatever.

Rules:
1. Sample at least 2 of the provided songs!
2. no hihats.
3. record your own percussion!
4. no outside melodic samples.
5. outside drums, bass, fx and other instruments allowed.

Congrats canoot on last weeks win!

My drums were created pretty simply. I have a box lying on the floor that I kicked for the kick, scratched a lid on my tabletop for the shaker and hit the desk for the snare. Pretty happy with what I put together in a couple hours.

I sampled the cal tjader vibraphone and billy cobham drums. Then i recorded shaker, tamborin and claves and played bassline and lead with the analog synth.

Get wiggy wit it! Last Thursday, i had a bolt and a metal fixture on my desk at work. I got bored and started to make a rhythm with it. So i brought it home and recorded it. Then, i saw this challenge and had to enter. The fixture and screw is an obvious sound at the beginning of the song. pretty quick and dirty beat but i enjoyed making it.

Well... I really had fun sampling and chopping from this... the challenge of recording alternative percussions... no hats helped keep things interesting... and I created quite a few different tracks on the MPC.

In the end though, I was not super down with what I threw together... this has turned into the brief version of the track I made... and I guess it is more chill as a result.

I gave it the name Donk, because this is a Ba Donk a Donk. :)

Lots of sample magic to get dug out of these tracks. Chopped up the Cal Tjader and Flight of the Concord, and recorded and distorted some percussion with the Stylophone drum. No hats is a great challenge. Fun week.

Here I am finally :)

Lots of fun, thanks for the samples and rules.

Congrats Canoot, loved the jazz selection in the samples

Sampled all the tracks. Also includes 2 cutlery hits and a banged table. Like Samwise, I had to resort to using a laptop mic

Cool stuff Canoot! ;)

Nice rules this week and some tasty samples to work with as well. :fire:

I used my phone to record the percussion rule this week....I used some coins, a lighter, and also my skateboard to make my percussion.

I sampled the "Flight of the Condor" and I also used the "A Funky Kinda of thing" for my Kick and snare. hope that counts with the rules?

Cooked up this beat this evening... :weed:

Had fun making this...

:salute: :vulcan: :peace:
