Rythmic grooves and signatures

Image
Tony Allen is well known for its special drums signature, one of the basis of Afrobeat musical identity. Since he passed away this week, I've added some extractsof him. A good start to (re)discover his music if you want.
There are many other genres with unique rythm. Curious about what could be a fusion of these, I've added some indonesian gamelan music (but modern style) by Will Guthrie, a drummer too. The groove is really, really different though.
Finally I've also added some jazz and very smooth music from Teruo Nakamura. Also different energy.

Rules
  • Use at least 1 sample from Tony Allen
  • Use at least one sample from another file
  • If you feel it, try to merge some gamelan rythms with Tony Allen grooves
  • Supplementary layers of any sounding type allowed
Hope youll have fun!

A good start to (re)discover his music if you want.
And you should.
Even if you weren't ever aware of his presence directly you almost certainly felt it through his inspiration of others.

My eternal gratitude, may he rest in peace.

Went in a different direction...but then started all over again and chopped up this one, that is not my usual cup of beat

What's up everybody? I've missed the past 100 beat battles or so and I'm feeling pretty rusty! I almost gave up on this one, but managed to get something down. I tried to use a bit of everything. The only thing from outside of the samples posted are some drums.

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Peace. :vulcan:

Yo, what's good peps?

Some real funky samples to work with this week. :sax: :drum:

I managed to put together something this afternoon, I used all the samples all be a little bit lazy and obvious, and also added some drums. ;)
A bit of EQ's and reverb. and The usual mixing sort of thing... :hmm: :geek:

:salute: :vulcan: :peace:
Peace.

Be easy Mr. Tony Allen - best drummer to ever get behind the kit.

It felt a little sacrilegious to mess with his drums too much, so I just added a separate track of kick patterns to lock it up and used his percussion sounds. Chopped the basslines and melodies from the sample set in maschine with some filters, and added ghost bells towards the end to send Mr. Allen off in style.

Congrats on the win PpAaSs! Well deserved.

Did a little experiment on this track with a three-part groove, hope you like it!
I've used the Tony Allen sample towards the end - did not want to add or change too much about the crisp Tony Allen groove. Rest easy, legend!

Cheers, dudes. Here's another one. Most sounds are from the provided material. No Teruo Nakamura. Actually I only added a synth lead, two snares and a bass drum.
