Your song has to start with a stripped-down section that has a simple, repeating rhythm; then the drums come in and they make you understand the original rhythm differently. Like the downbeat wasn't where you thought it was, or the note values weren't what you thought they were. The listener's head should go 'whaaaaaa' when the drums hit.
