STBB # 629 - The "Physical Object Melody" Week

STBB #629

The "Physical Object Melody" Week

A short time ago, my father in law gave me a busted old guitar. So, now I'm trying to figure out how to play it, which is hella frustrating, but also fun to create music using just a physical object.

So this week, we're making music using physical objects.

Special rule: Record something you got laying around at home, that you can make a musical note from. You must use this for a melody part in your composition

It could be a guitar, a bass, a piano or maybe you're more into hitting stuff to make sounds. Use whatever you got. Just be sure to make some sort of melody part from your recorded note(s). One note would be enough as you can assign it to your midi keyboard and play it freely. You're allowed to record as much as you like, though. Have fun with it.

I found a few samples from my "Exotica"-folder. I'm in love with the moods in exotica music.

RULES:

Acapellas allowed (but make the tempo of the vocal fit your beat, please).
Additional instruments or FX allowed
You have to use the sample in some sort of way.

Congrats Kong!! Killed it last week :fire:

It's funny I was just reading some article yesterday with PBW's interview with Questlove and they brought up a story of Madlib's beat for De La Soul's Shopping Bags, maybe some inspiration for this week's battle

First of all, I had no idea Madlib made Shopping Bags! Secondly, I can't wait to read this article. I'm currently reading the Creative Quest book by Questlove and he's got tons of great stories about artists like this.

As for the challenge, I brought back a ravanhatta violin from Rajistan Indian (got quite a few questions from security since I had no case and just wore it over my shoulder like a small rifle.) I've been meaning to sample it for about 10 years and never have. I'm going to finally use it for this week's challenge.

Hi folks

i recorded my old gas oven in my room (hits), pitched it up and tried to come up with a melody that fits the "exotic" topic this week. :)
Thought the "jungles" acapella by blu & med would suit this one.

also i experimented with my new monitors to improve my mixing game, especially when it comes to the low end. tried out the RC color lofi plugin on that one too.

have a nice week!

Nice! 8-)

What monitors did you get? The low end sounds great btw.

That RC color plugin is really good. I use it all the time. Very handy having all those processors in one really good interface.

dope rules and samples ,good to be back here finally... hit a glass of water and turned that into a arp sound, played one note of a shitty guitar and turned that into a guitar synth and keys, tried singing and turned that into some weird brass sound.

I sampled two of the tracks and played melodica for the hook (added a stutter effect) + djembe and claves (no melody but physical objects).
