Yo

I had this crazy idea yesterday
Since dudes round here are all about a mix and shit
Why dont we do a mixing battle? No beats, just mix. Get a Marvin Gaye joint with the stems and voui lá just make it sound great.
I mean. That shit would be dope!

Italian Movie Soundtrack Battle

There are so many sweet soundtracks from those old italian movies (Like all that Goblin stuff) - Another one that comes to mind for me is one I picked up on CD recently, this movie was pretty strange... but a killer soundtrack! Tons of stuff to flip on this one. A battle with a selection of soundtracks from Italian movies would be sweet!

Neat trailer Drafthouse Films did for the re-release

Cool thread ;-)

- Make a dope beat with wack sounds. Lame drum kits and synths

- Make a radio/product commercial song (real existing product or fantasy product) with the structure and length of a normal track 2/3.30 min)

- Use all the provided samples integral, without chopping, editing, inrecognizable mixing, etc.
See what everybody bakes from the same sounds. Use of extra external sounds/samples allowed.

- No melody/tune week. No synths, no piano. Aka Just beat & bass-week.

I was thinking it would be cool to follow the formula of my favorite band The Pixies.it is the the loudQuietloud formula. The samples could be anything but the track must go loud quiet loud.

Battle-Setting-Idea

let the bass speak week.

build your beat around the bass - try to create a really dope bassline (make it funky, not so much that now popular 808 in you face thing) no other limitations stylewise.

Provided Samples, Drums (including percussion), Bass, Vocalshots, Acapellas and original raps allowed.

keep it under 3 minutes (I'll not count seconds)

Fake breaks

I’m super inspired by Barry Beats’ recent three-part fake breaks episode, especially since there are no sample clearance issues and it’s all your work.

I think it would be cool to do a fake breaks rap week in the style of Mario C from the Beastie Boys. Basically take a Beastie Boys a cappella track and have people use either VSTs or real instruments/recordings to create all your own samples to chop. This would be a good way to practice the “fake breaks” technique for our own music outside the beat battles.

BTW, this Red Bull Academy video on Mario C is pure gold if you want to know more about how the Beastie tunes were made. Legendary. It’s a little slow at the beginning but well worth giving it a chance.

Watched RedLetterMedia review Willy Wonka and I forgot how much I enjoyed this one as a kid - The soundtrack is really special (except Charlie's mom song lol)

In some old video with Alchemist, Oh No was showing off so many Willy Wonka flips that could be a good inspiration, sad none of these got released anywhere!

Might be a fun battle :) - I have it in WAV if anyone needs it!
