I think that a general battle rule could be a better sound. I mean, if we can work some hours for creating a beat, we can work a little bit at mix, maybe even at the mastering sound. Is not a world ending thing to have a better sound. Some beats are HARDASFXCK and i would enjoy listening them in my car loudly, but the sound is very bad :)))

I think most of us try to get the best mix in the given time..
I agree a good mix will help to appreciate a track better.
although a creatively dope flip will usually do well too.

thanks for your input!

Loop Digging Week: every sound you use must be a loop from the source samples. Light effects and tempo shifts are allowed but keep it recognizable. No outside anything.

thought up these ideas:
Subliminal Messages
like, try and hide something in your track that's not obvious to hear at first listen somehow.
maybe it can be heard when sped up
or it's just garbled or chopped and rearranged

Forest: make a beat that gives you the idea that you are walking through a forest, spatially.3D.. field recordings vibe.
other places like a Desert or City could be an option too.

One Loop beat: make it interesting by changing up the dums only

THE FILM SCHOOL

Pick a famous director known for their soundtracks (eg. Tarantino).... Pick a few of said famous tracks to sample... Rules are it MUST include a vocal sample from one of their movies...

Can do the same with Video Games...

all intrument(vst) vs all samples

This could be done in one beat with two parts or each person chooses a side...

cool wax!.. '78.. good year ;)

I had this idea the other day:
Make a Feminine sounding beat.. without being misogynistic of course.
Maybe a Masculine half in contrast.

Hey All, A friend turned me on to this video and i thought this would be a cool idea ( microtonal ). Many producers here already have this sound in spades but I had no clue how to get it. Maybe they use some kinda tape fx or something but i would like to explore it or hear how they get that effect on their chops. Probably been done already but i would like to hear how different producers get it.

Peace, Hugh

some Ideas i had in mind:

- No heavy Snares (just percussion like sounds)
- Tempochanges (1 part of the Beat has to be at least halftime or slower)
- Heavy filtering (No Hi end above 12kHz for example)
- Put a Vocoder, Or some other Modulation like Flanger on your whole Drumtrack (could be done with any other Effect like Delay....)
- Wet week, drain your Tracks in Reverb and Delays Big Time (all tracks need to have some sort of Room, Delay on it - nothing can be dry)
- L/R Variation (for example Drums and Bass need to be Left anything else Right) only Fx Returns are allowed to be on the "other" Side
- Fieldrecording (go out and catch/record some Athmosphere you create your Beat over or around) alternative post an Athmosphere recording everybody has to use
- Uptempo (for example no Entries under 100bpm)
- Dirty/Trash week (Distort, Fk sht up, Bitcrush, use heavy processing - make it as dirty as possible)
- Electronic (Use a 90's Pop/Techno Track as foundation of the Instrumental)
- All Sampleflips must be backwards only additional Bass and drums are allowed
- Cafe del Mar Week

all of these ideas can be matched with eachother

i'm sure i/we can come up with more

This a hard challenge.
You can do it, if you believe in yourself.

Battle Idea:

SHOW YOUR DAEMON
release the beast

Make beat with animal sounds included, (vox fauna!), prefering
the voice of your totem animal.
For the top points, make the beat your animal genre, examples: (lion = reggae, wolf/frog=world music, panther=metal, lizard = lounge, Moth =house, beetle= britpop, cockroach =trap, rabbit/mole = roots, dragonfly =techno, snake= dubstep). haha!
Bring out your dark materials!
