.. i was just thinking.. how long untill we get the first: 'let AI create you a random melody from this and implement it' rule, or something like that
Image

Rule set:

In light of the main topic of conversation of the previous week,
in a tongue and cheek way I thought it would be interesting to have a week that has contestants working with
:ugeek: THE ALL KNOWING ENTITY :ugeek:
to make something unique for the coming week.

Brief:
Contestants must build their own generative elements recorded from https://isartum.net/apotome and use them as the main harmonic elements in their submission.

Apotome is an online generative sequencer that allows for a multitude of rhtyhmic and tuning possibilities.

APOTOME TUTORIAL : https://vimeo.com/503451447

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Contestants can use https://chromewebstore.google.com/deta ... gbmkjnpjgc (chrome) or another recording equivalent to record their samples.
If any contestant does not have access to a computer they can participate using the following folder: https://we.tl/t-fuw28BzHU2

Contestants must only use the synths inclued within Apotome (Simple Synth, DX7, OBX included).
[Even though it allows for Midi Out, only the synths within the browser are allowed.]

------------------------------------------------------------

Contestants are also encouraged to use the following websites for their drums and FX:

https://sfxr.me/

Image

https://experiments.withgoogle.com/ai/d ... hine/view/

Outside drums can be used, but +10 points will be used for using ONLYthe sounds contained within Apotome or the above mentioned sites

------------------------------------------------

Again for contestants unable to access the above sites, a selection of drum sounds from these sites are provided : https://we.tl/t-co9YNx6AmD

The ethos of this week is MAN using MACHINE to further his own creativity. Its meant to be man working alongside the machine, and for this reason, any live instrumentation, or live vocals, is all kosher. It feels like the right week (after last weeks conversation) to challenge people to find a middle ground between computer generated insanity and human rationality. I hope people appreciate the open-endness of this challenge after a few tough weeks!
af

Allowed

Outside Drums: Yes
Outside Bass: No
VST Instruments: No
Live instruments: Yes
Live Recorded Vocals: : Yes
Pre-recorded Acapellas: No
FX like Filtering/Reverb etc: : Yes
Foley, (Vocal) One Shots: Yes
Micro-Looping: Yes
Split/ Isolated Stems: ??
Special Rule: Not necessary to use only generated drums, but if you do....+10 points

soon we will be implanted with brain chips and linked up to the neural net where we can simply dream up beats
THE FINE PRINT:
Upload your beat to Soundcloud, include "STBB 884“ in the title, and POST TO THIS FORUM by Thursday 06:00 in the morning, Pacific time/15:00 CET
Try to leave as much feedback as you can and you will receive it back.
For easy browsing's sake, you can also go to the STBB page: https://soundcloud.com/stbbcollection
Label entries that are posted after the deadline as 'late entry' and entries that don't comply with the rules as: 'non-entry' in your track title.
EVERYONE VOTES - by Friday noon Pacific / 21:00 CET
Winner: post new sample, rules, etc by Friday midnight Pacific/ Sat. 09:00 CET and upload the sample here: https://wetransfer.com/[/align]

Tough Week. Hope the rules are not so stringent this week but the winner makes the rules.
haha, had to think of this comment, wondering if this week's challenge is considered less stringent..

lemme say i'm fighting the urge to just dl the files and get to work.. .. so far not even managing to get a single squeek out of apotome

more time tomo' .. maybe tecnological wunderkind 5X will have uploaded a beat and MO by then to examin :D

this....is a lot.

while i cant say i'm not interested in what yall might come up with i rly just want some samples to flip and the rules as to how i should flip them. having to watch a tutorial to participate is going to deter most people i feel like but hey, winners rules....i'll have to sit this one out tho.

i'll be checking back to listen for sure.

right but the rule says that you can only use those in browser synths, and the files seem to provided for those who dont have access to a a computer, not as a way to bypass the special rule and just flip them.

idk i feel like whatever rules are fine but there should always be an option to just be able to download the files and flip them with whatever basic setup you have.

hmm well.. i'm not getting any audio from apotome for some reason.. so i'd have to resort to the folders

and this: ' If any contestant does not have access to a computer they can participate using the following folder: https://we.tl/t-fuw28BzHU2'

seems like it's a legit opt out regardless ?

but, i'll leave it with es-pee..

no flipping for the sake of it or none-entry though gt ?

i recall online synths being a rule about 8 years ago.. by Sixfingerz i think..

oh, and that reminds me.. a couple of years ago i had a rule where people had to split stems.. and added the vocalremover link.. this was before serato(?)..

haha, i can totally sympathize .. i'm prob worse.. i don't use a smartphone.. by choice

however if someone is able to help get apotome to work i'll prob record it into my mic for some lo--fi sounds..

like, it should start out playing something off the bat right.. since there's just a 'stop' symbol ?.. tutorial doesn't cover the supposedly simplest thing haha...

aight.. curious to hear from es-pee.. maybe 10+ points for using both external sounds/drums ?

however totally fine if you wanna upkeep the initial brief

Yep thats my intention with the Wetransfer Files! They´re just recordings of Apotome that I made and some recordings of Drums / FX from the websites that I listed... Apologies I don´t think I was very clear last night with the instructions..

glasstapes wrote:

the in-browser synths I´m talking about are the ones included within Apotome, which are DX7 and Oberheim synth Emulations. Apotome gives you the option to send midi to whereever so people theoretically could have used whatever synths / vsts they wanted. I put that rule in place to (hopefully) even the playing field a bit.

That sounds dope! If I can help you or anyone else get this thing working please reach out!

Theres a more extensive tutorial here: https://vimeo.com/503451447
I didn´t want to post it since its Vimeo and it requires sign in to play the video...ill update the initial brief with it.

Joa you should be able to get some sounds going initially by pressing these 3 buttons : https://imgur.com/gallery/SAvGkoy
Image

There are play buttons on each track and then a master play button aswell, which can be confusing...but if you press the randomize button it should randomize all parameters and start spitting out something

Yeah thats fine by me!

I also have a more generic challenge we can fall back on if people really aren´t fucking with this challenge... I´ll leave it a little while longer and see what people are saying.
