Loving the result of this one! Thanks GD for the samples. I layered up the below:

O'Donel Levy - Sierra Lonely (Low register chops)
The Bobby Hamilton Quintet Unlimited - Dream Queen (Upper register chops)

I played my Arturia MatrixBrute, Nord Lead A1 and Behringer Deepmind 12 for the spacey synth arps and pads, and of course all the drums/vox one shots.

I'm delighted how well using the synths worked out as I don't usually combine synthesis and sample flipping. In 2017 almost all my tracks were original synth based records rather than sample based. (Most of them are on my Starry Night album that came out on WeGrowWax at the start of 2018. Link to it here anyone is interested :) ), but I wanted to get more into sample flipping and advancing my beatmaking so I bought a Maschine Mk3, Jam and KK Mk2 keyboard, and for the first 6 months in 2018 I learned Maschine inside out, practiced lots, and got used to working with no DAW and an all new much more hands on and faster workflow. (I'd been using Cubase for the last few years, and still do for mixing/mastering)

Then in July I decided the time was right to get involved in the Stones Throw Beat Battle, as i'd been keeping an eye on it for a few weeks, and the community seemed cool. So, 40 finished tracks later and countless more WIP, it's 2019 and i've learned a shit ton re beatmaking and sample flipping and made more tracks in the last 6 months than the last 6 years! :D Plus became an enthusiastic member of this great community which has been really cool. 8-)

However, my plan all along for this year was to combine everything i'd achieved in the last few years, i.e. the synth side and the sample flipping side, into one coherent vibe, and it sounds like i'm off to a good start and this is going to be a great year! :headphone:

Haven't done one of these in awhile. Glad to see you guys are still doing this!

Took the keys and horns from the Bobby Hamilton song and played out my own bass line under it.

Oi! Tudo Bem?

What's good people? I worked on a little thing this afternoon. All the samples from the Marc Moulin track and some drums and filter work. Oh and a little vocal bit of me trying to speak Brazilian Portuguese ;)

Peace.
